The Half-Time Groove

Move the snare to beat 3 only and the whole groove feels twice as slow, heavy and spacious — the sound of power ballads, hip-hop, and breakdowns.

1. Play eighth-note hi-hats with a kick on beat 1.

2. Put the snare on beat 3 — and only beat 3. With one backbeat instead of two, the groove feels half-speed and enormous.
